Canucks coach Travis Green says he expects Jake Virtanen, as with any young player, to put in a lot of hard work this summer and push for a spot on the team. Travis says he's familiar with Cody Glass, with the Portland roots, and hears a lot of good things about Glass

Ben Kuzma says if the Canucks do take a defenseman at five, they absolutely need to make a move to grab a centre later in the first round. Kuz feels Cody Glass ticks off more boxes for the Canucks than Gabe Vilardi does – skating, 5-on-5 production, the Portland Winterhawks environment – but both, along with Elias Pettersson, are probably the three centres targeted by the Canucks

Jon Abbott suggests the Canucks should stick with the fifth pick, but gets a sense that Jim Benning will take a defenseman with that choice and look to add a centre later on. Abbs says Chris Tanev is a player who can insulate Olli Juolevi’s transition to the NHL

Ray Ferraro says the Islanders must make their team as attractive as possible to John Tavares, so adding Jordan Eberle helps. And Ray says needing to pay McDavid and Draisaitl means moving Eberle was something Edmonton had to do. Ray is okay with Jim Benning moving down in the draft if he can add a mid -first-round pick by doing so (20th and better), but is a bit lukewarm on the idea of moving down and only adding a second-rounder in the process.
