We've ducked and weaved through all of the end of 10th updates, the 11th edition previews and launch, and have firmly landed in codex territory. The Orks are up first. What. A. Book!
11th edition has brought many new changes to how armies are created. Picking and choosing from multiple smaller detachments allows you to really carve out your own playstyle on the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop. Orks, an absolute staple of the game since its inception, has options coming out the whazoo.
With new datasheets in Nazdreg, and the Big Mek Dakkarig, to a whopping 15 of those detachments, all elements of Orks receive love in a way not really seen for some time. Want to run Grots, Bosses, and Planes? Sure. Beast Snagga's, Meks, and Bikes? Go ahead!
We have absolutely adored going through this book and cannot wait for the next codex. Let us know how you enjoy both the Orks Codex and our review!

TTP Field Manual is brought to you by Joshy and Jonny, best friends and tabletop gaming fans from their local group, Trust the Process Hobbies. We use this podcast to share our ramblings about the hobby (though we cannot shut up about Warhammer).
By day, Joshy is a therapist; by night, an RPG aficionado raised on Final Fantasy and years of crafting his own Dungeons & Dragons worlds. Jonny, a technician, spends his downtime conquering more video games than Joshy can track.
Our occasional guest Zakky has a passion for buying things he then has to build.

We're back to where it all started; we are redoing our original four episodes! Those inaugural episodes served as both an introduction to and a metrics-based review of each playable faction in Warhammer 40,000. With 11th edition landing hot and new players joining the scene, we feel it's a great time to revisit this faction breakdown format.
For the final and fourth episode, we are covering the Xenos factions. Aliens!
From the classic archetypes of greenskin Orks and elven "Aeldari", to cosmic horror hivemind "Tyranids" and the technologically advanced "Tau Empire", Warhammer isn't short on interesting factions to populate alongside humanity and its dark, chaotic mirrors.
–
This series blends matter-of-fact orientation with opinionated review. We give each of the four categories a ranking between 1-5, and an overall score out of 20. We call this the S.L.A.G. ranking. We feel these categories cover all you need to know:
STYLE - the overall aesthetic and whether we feel it is fully realised.
LORE - their place in the universe, how they are represented, and how they carry themselves within the epic.
ACCESSIBILITY - whether the faction is easy to acquire, paint, and get going with.
GAMEPLAY - how all of the above comes to life on the tabletop, whether their rules serve the faction well, and whether the faction does well both casually and competitively.

This episode features our BOOK CLUB pick for August/September: "The Emperor's Gift", by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, with audiobook performance by Christopher Kent. BOOK CLUB is a monthly-ish series intended to be more relaxed and casual; more a discussion than a review.
"The Emperor's Gift" follows a young Grey Knight, those secret Space Marine warriors of psychic prowess keen against the Daemons of the Warp, and how he, Hyperion, and his squad are caught up in Khorne's "First War for Armageddon", alongside the Space Wolves and Inquisition. There will be spoilers.
October's book club will be a classic: Frank Herbert's DUNE. 'Nuff said.

Joshy and Zakky have a casual conversation about how our hobbying is going, from discussing existing Warhammer projects to what's next for our collections, rounding out the back half of the episode with a chat on everything we've been getting up to outside of the Warhammer hobby.

This episode is BONUS CONTENT; discussions and series intended to be more casual in tone, complementing our other episodes. This episode features our BOOK CLUB pick for July - Warhammer the Horus Heresy: "The First Heretic", by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, performed on audio by Gareth Armstrong. There will be spoilers.
"The First Heretic" covers the slow turn to the worship of Chaos, not just for the Word Bearers legionaries but of their primarch Lorgar Aurelian. A chain of events leading to possession and turning the ear of other legions all begins with the razing of Monarchia, a punishment by The Emperor for the Word Bearers' disallowed religious worship of his image.
August's book club will be another title by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, "The Emperor's Gift", a Grey Knights novel following the young knight Hyperion around the time of the First War for Armageddon.
