Each day in the week is dedicated to one or more of the Gods or Goddesses in the Hindu pantheon.
This video looks at Tuesday or Mangalvar/ Mangala Vaasara named after the planet mangal or Mars. ‘Mangal’ means auspiciousness and the planet is held as sacred as it is auspiciousness personified. This powerful planet represents qualities like vitality, power, endurance and courage. It is thus dedicated to the worship of many strong deities, of such qualities. In different regions of India it is the day of Shakti or Mother Goddess as the fierce Protector, in forms like Durga , Kali, Rajarajeshvari etc. It is also an important day for Her son Muruga /Subrahmanya, popular in the southern parts of India.
In other regions tuesday is the day for worshipping Lord Ganesha as well as Lord Hanuman. Most devotees visit shrines on tuesdays. In India, people follow different customs in every state and different deities may be worshipped on each day, but we can see that each day has a particular emotion and therefore the designated deities.
Let us look at simple shlokas for each of these deities, after which, I will also talk about the benefits of Tuesday worship.
