MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a noninvasive test similar to CT scans and X-rays. A powerful magnetic field is used to make detailed internal pictures of the body, including soft tissue. (Soft tissue is made up of ligament, tendon, and muscle.) These pictures are then used to help diagnose medical conditions.
