Hello, fellow teachers! Welcome to Tuned to Teach: A Music Teacher's Notebook. My name is Hannah, and I'm so glad you're here!

I started this podcast to talk honestly about classroom management, teaching practices, and the things I've actually learned on the job as a music teacher.

In this pilot episode, which also serves as an introduction, I talk about a mistake I made early in my teaching career: not creating clear boundaries with my students. That choice is also why I address you as "fellow teachers" here, not "friends".

We all know that one student you just can't seem to get to listen, no matter what you try. In this episode, I share three things I've learned:

    1. Don't refer to students as friends.
    2. Avoid empty threats, as they make things worse.
    3. Don't feel guilty for following through with consequences.

If any of this sounds familiar, this one's for you!
