Tuning the Bow episodes

  • Vacation Mode

When families vacation, there seems to be a lack of Christian living away from home. In this episode, Matt and Tim want parents to consider that discipleship does not stop while away from the normal activities back home. They also talk about sports for the first seven-ish minutes, so you can skip that part if you are not interested.

    Passages – 1 Corinthians 10:31; 2 Corinthians 5:9

  • Cleaning the Lent Filter

Lent is the time of preparation for Easter, but much like deconstructing, people do not replace things they lay aside with Scripture. In this episode, Matt and Tim challenge the current view of fasting and want to give parents a biblical understanding of what it looks like. Though fasting is not always best way for some people to prepare their hearts, removing distractions from our lives so that we may better focus on God will not be something that harms us. Consider the everlasting way and make preparations to lead your family down it well.

    Passages – Matthew 6:14-18
    Luke 2:36-38
    Psalm 139

  • HELP! My Kid Is Deconstructing!

is what most parents think when their child asks some difficult questions, but this is not always the case. In this episode, Matt and Tim pick on each other for a bit before discussing what deconstruction is and is not. Be discerning to see if your child is asking questions to stump you or to see if you can give them the right answer, so never throw away their seemingly senseless questions. Do not be afraid to face the hard questions because you are surrounded by people who have asked similar questions and have become stronger in their faith.

  • A Friend to Walk With

Parenting is difficult to do alone, so it is good to have friends you can trust to help. This trust is not open to anyone, so Tim and Matt try to give you some parameters in looking at who you want to be friends with (with a bit of a longer intro talking about some Super Bowl drama). Matt recounts a friend of his parents' impact on his life and why it matters to find the right friends to speak into the life of your children.

  • When it Boils Over

When parents encounter conflict, it can either end up being a good teaching moment for the kids or a terrible fight that can hurt their child in the future. In this episode, Tim and Matt want to encourage good communication, a humble heart, and a life filled with the fruit of the Spirit. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers have the ability to overcome their sinful desires and can live a life of victory and peace. Cling to the Lord, and He will give you rest.

  • Listening in Prayer

Life gets busy, and time becomes a precious resource. In this busyness, many Christians neglect their prayer life because of a lack of biblical understanding of what prayer is. In this episode, Tim and Matt recycle old sermon material to help parents understand that listening to God's still, small voice is just as important as us laying our burdens upon Him. Make time to hear His voice, and you will see that He speaks frequently.

  • Living with Letdown

There are many things (big and small) that can cause people to be disappointed and feel letdown.  In these times, people often react unbiblically and hurt the people around either intentionally or unintentionally. In this episode, Matt and Tim work through the biblical response to disappointment and give some practical tips in helping parents lead their families to do the same. Remember that God is fully in control of every situation, and your experiences are similar to many who have struggled and found peace.

  • Biblical Identity

Many people find their identity in things outside of or within themselves, but they neglect what God has already said should define them. In this episode, Matt and Tim work through some biblical passages to show that God has already told us what we should think about identity and the importance of listening to Him through Scripture. Learn how to listen to God and take that knowledge into your parenting for the betterment of yourself and your parenting.

  • The Matt Returns

I (Matt) spent almost two weeks in Japan, and I have some reflections that I think will help parents better minister their children. Schedules were thrown out, divine appointments were made, and around fifty people were taught about biblical counseling through my team's efforts. Tim provides some application points that push parents to reconsider their day-to-day activities and promote Gospel conversations over other things. Give it a listen and be encouraged to always live on mission!

  • Guiding Your Family – Grief

Grief is a difficult process for many people, so when families lose a loved one, they might not know what they need to do. In this episode, Tim and Matt will not give you the steps in dealing with grief, but they will give some starting points to prepare for it. Preparation is key, and the work that parents do before a loss happens will help them and their kids to grieve well.
