Jephthah was the son of a prostitute and his brothers sent him away so he could not share in their inheritance. But when they needed someone to help them fight the Ammonites, they called him back to help them. Jephthah reluctantly agrees when they promise to make him their new judge if he brings them victory.

In this episode before the battle, Jephthah gives the Ammonite king a history lesson over their journey into the Promised Land and how they came to acquire the land. Then we talk about not calling on our friends or on God only when we need them.
