Over the past 25 years, Atlas Pearls Farm has become one of the largest cultured pearl producing companies in the world. It has seven farms and harvests more than 500,000 pearls each year.

A pearl is a lustrous, hard object of great human value, generated within the soft tissue of a mollusk, in this case, an oyster. They are formed when a foreign body—be it a simple parasite, a small shell fragment, or a grain of sand—enters the mollusk's mantle. As a natural protection, the shell covers the external particle with a substance called nacre, composed of calcium carbonate, organic matter, and water. Pearls are nacre cysts formed by oysters to isolate a foreign element that has entered their bodies.

Due to overfishing, very few pearls are found naturally in oysters or mussels. Today, most are raised and cultivated on farms like this one, a non-extractive and sustainable industry that strives to preserve a delicate balance between humans, nature, and science to grow a living gem, considered the finest pearl in the world.
