What happens when a romance book podcaster and a TV screenwriter, both major Turkish TV fanatics, sit down to spill the çay (tea) on their favorite shows? Pure obsession, that's what! We're dissecting every slow-burn romance, diving head-first into every "will they or won't they,” and taking a magnifying glass to all the drama.
We are Melissa & Laura, and we're not just spectators—we're super-fans navigating the rollercoaster ride of emotions that is Turkish TV! From swoon-worthy love interests to plot twists that'll leave you gasping for air, we're covering it all.
So tune in because, in the world of Turkish dizis, the drama never sleeps...and neither do we!
On our very first episode of Turkish TV Obsessed, we both share how we discovered Turkish TV series and the very first series we watched.
Then, we break down the
first episode of Sen Çal Kapimi (Love is in the Air) and all its enemies-to-lovers, fake dating, jealous/possessive hero, and feisty heroine goodness.
Some things we discuss:
- Eda works in a flower shop while vowing revenge on some evil man who ruined her chances of going to University in Italy. She even uses a poster of him as a dart board. We love Eda.
- We meet “the man” stepping off a private jet (obviously) – Serkan Bolat, think: “Miranda Priestly meets Christian Grey.”
- The complete savagery of Serkan’s ex-girlfriend, who not only invites him to her engagement party…but includes handcuffs with the invite!
- Eda and Serkan’s disastrous “meet cute” including forced proximity and, no surprise, THE HANDCUFFS.
- Eda helps Serkan close a deal while we discover her claustrophobia and his allergy to strawberries (and possible illness or hypochondria?)
- Poor Leyla, Serkan’s assistant, who endures all of his wrath, gets fired but rehired again. Plus, the whole crew shows up to figure out how to remove the handcuffs.
- More plot devices to bring Eda/Serkan back together, lots of slow-mo & longing stares at the handcuffs! Very Fifty Shades coded.
- The first appearance by Serkan’s savage ex, Selin, who he refused to commit to. Serkan also has a cute dog.
- Eda suddenly must fill in as a flight attendant for a private plane, which apparently you do not need any type of training or certification for. Serkan is there! More strawberries and claustrophobia! There is truly nothing better than Turkish series.
- Selin’s engagement party. Serkan makes Eda an offer she CAN refuse, at least for now. He still does not know her name. There are lots of paparazzi/influencers there posting online, and word about a rumored romance between Eda and Serkan gets out. Selin is jealous, delighting Serkan.
- We learn Eda has a boyfriend named Cenk (which kind of sounds like “Jake”), but he’s clearly not that into her, and there’s a creepy woman on a bench staring at them. This could turn into thriller territory, but since it’s a Turkish romcom, we feel Eda is safe. Whew. Not long after, Cenk negs her about Serkan, dumps her, and reveals the creepy woman on the bench is his girlfriend. Cenk sucks. Bye Cenk.
- We’re left at a press conference where Serkan is supposed to set the record straight about Eda, but she kisses him instead.
- Fake dating is ON!
