How do economists think about humans? Do they base their perceptions on facts or are they motivated by ideology? Are economists influenced by populistic ideas or are they loyal to scientific principles? And how does the way they understand humans affect policy recommendations? Or in other words: how do they affect our lives? This podcast tells the story of the economic species, a revolutionary idea that allowed the description of humans as economic beings. Over the course of history, economists looked at human economic activity in various ways. This podcast recasts this story and portrays the diverse ways it was impacted by social, scientific, political and economic trends. What’s truly fascinating is how the human image perceived by economists affects the life of each and every one of us.
