Questioning Christmas - Presenter: Gerald Weston (TVCA904)

There is a problem with Christmas, and it goes beyond “putting Christ back in it.”  The truth is that it conflicts with the Biblical record and therefore undermines the true meaning of Jesus’ birth.  The truth is that much of the Christmas narrative predates the birth of Christ. How is that possible? If the story and the traditions we are familiar with do not find their origins in the Bible, where do they come from? Discover four problems with Christmas, problems for which every sincere Christian should be concerned.

What a year 2020 has been! And as of this recording, there are still four months to go. If the eight previous months are any indication, we had better hang onto our seats, because it may be a very bumpy ride. Do you sense that world order is breaking down? If so, you’re not alone. How often we hear people remark that they have never seen anything like this—floods, droughts, fires, locust plagues, the Coronavirus pandemic. We see unrest in cities around the world. Shockingly, the United States is under siege from within as anarchists burn, loot, and tear at the very fabric of civilized society, while mayors and governors sit on the sidelines allowing chaos to reign. We hear news commentators and citizens alike struggle to find words that are adequate to describe what they see, and the word we hear most often, is, insanity.

Perhaps you read my July/August Tomorrow’s World magazine article, “The Perfect Storm,” with the subtitle questions, “How did 2020 go wrong? And why?”

We might also ask, what will 2021 be like? Our world is coming to a crisis, like nothing in the history of the world, but there is good news beyond. There is hope in tough times, so if you would like to know the future, stay tuned.

Imagine a perfect world. Not what we see today, but a new world, ideal in every way. What would it be like? If you could remake everything you see, what would you change? Maybe you would erase the political divides that plague our world… Perhaps you would get rid of corruption, scandals, lies and government propaganda. Perhaps you would reform the criminal justice system, and institute new laws. Fair and just laws that protect the unborn and don’t legalize immorality. You’d close loopholes that benefit the rich and powerful. Everyone would be truly equal before the law, all the time, without fail. Maybe you would get rid of violence and war… No more men and women learning the art and science of warfare... And no more violence and anarchy in the streets.

Is it possible? Am I only dreaming? You might think so, looking at society today. If you read the headlines and watch the latest videos posted online, you might conclude that this hope for a perfect world is unrealistic.

But stop a moment. This ideal world I just described is what your Bible predicts, in detail. This may be shocking to some, but it’s true.

Let’s take a look at the Bible, and get a glimpse of that future. Yes… there are difficult years ahead. But after that, the future is bright. A better, just, and peaceful world is coming. And it will happen on this earth.

So, let’s find out about that world, by looking in the Bible. We’ll examine one specific prophecy in the ancient book of Isaiah. You might be amazed at what we find.

In a recent KFF poll, nearly half (45%) of adults in the United States reported that their mental health has been negatively impacted due to worry and stress over the virus.”

Some of the most famous words ever written are, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

The Second World War ended 75 years ago and a shrinking number are old enough to remember it firsthand. Those who fought in that terrible war, and those civilians who endured it, are dying off. They were my parent’s generation. The war was etched deeply upon their minds and hearts and I remember them taking me to the American Cemetery in Cambridge England. The Memorial Day ceremonies included a plane flyover to drop flowers from the sky over the precisely aligned white crosses where 3,812 Americans were buried. And a wall contained the names of 5,127 others that were missing in action.

It was an impressive sight, but my twelve-year-old mind couldn’t take in the meaning of it all. And for that matter, who can? While a cemetery is a meaningful reality of the conflict, it hardly encompasses the total brutality of a fight that engulfed the whole world and cut short the lives of some 60 to 70 million people, with far more bearing physical and emotional scars.

After the greatest conflict in man’s history, we’re still looking for the way to peace. There have been dozens of wars in the intervening 75 years, but all limited in scope in comparison. One must ask, “Are we making progress toward a more peaceful world?” Surely, there will never be a World War III! Nations are not that foolish. Or are they?

Have we seen the war to end war? Can mankind learn the way to peace? There are answers to these questions and the answers may surprise you. There IS good news, so stay tuned.

A growing number of parents are taking their children out of public school systems in favor of private and charter schools. And not a few are choosing to teach their children at home. Why? The answer is obvious. They are fed up with activists teaching their children values to which they don’t agree. Where are we headed? Considering how much has changed in the last five years, what pressures will you face trying to raise your children over the next five years? The thought is alarming!

In April 2019, Global News reporter Jules Knox filed an article revealing that senior health care is now the fastest growing sector of the British Columbia economy. Even with significantly improved wages, many job vacancies in elder care are still unfilled, leaving seniors not always receiving expected support and attention. Across the nation fewer workers are available to fill jobs of many descriptions. Perhaps you have noticed that there are more and more empty playgrounds. Where have the children gone? Why is this happening?

Protests: Constructive or Destructive? - Presenter: Stuart Wachowicz (TVCA933)

Starting in March 2019, thousands of protesters took to the streets of Hong Kong to show their dislike for a law that would allow suspected criminals, who had allegedly committed a crime in mainland China, to be extradited from Hong Kong back to China to face trial. Some demonstrations became violent, with the smashing of shops and vehicles and the throwing of Molotov cocktails and other projectiles at police who were trying restore order. So, are the protests worth the consequence?

The scenes are gripping. Streets filled with protestors. Buildings burning. Clashes with law enforcement. Masks and pandemic warnings. Racial tensions. Experts at odds. And the leaders we expect to bring order, balance, and solutions doing little more than tweeting, blaming, and posturing--inadequate, ineffectual, and focused on internal divisions and discord.

It seems as though civilization itself is going up in flames.

On our program today, we will review the state of the world right now, and we will seek to do what others won’t: We’ll look at the causes of this chaos--causes that most are unwilling to admit.
