The only time folks in the South worry about having enough bread for the day is when the weather people interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to tell us we’re all going to die in the snow. Then, we rush to the grocery store where we discover shelf after shelf of every kind of bread you can imagine. How do people like us pray for something they have more of than they need?

You probably won’t use the word “hallowed,” at work or school or in the neighborhood this week. But every second of every day, everywhere you are, you’re going to want what this dusty old word describes.

What do you call the most powerful person in the world? How do you relate to someone who is so important, even the furniture in his house has a name and a history? There’s an iconic image you may remember: John Kennedy, Jr., playing under the Resolute desk in the Oval Office as his father, the most powerful man in the world, looks on. JFK is smiling. John Jr. didn’t call JFK, “Mr. President.” He called him “Dad.” So how do you relate to an extremely important person? It all depends on your relationship.

So things haven’t turned out like you thought they would. That abundant life Jesus promised seems painfully elusive. Either you failed God or he failed you. Right? Maybe not. Let’s start with how you define the words “abundant life.”

Christians and non-Christians have at least one thing in common: they’re both terrified of evangelism. How about we try something different. Let’s just talk.
