For this episode, we talk with Emely about Biomedical Engineering - why she chose it and her experience. We also learn more about what she does now as an Associate Scientist in Family Care R&D at Procter & Gamble.

About Emely: She grew up in Los Angeles, California, and comes from a Salvadoran and Guatemalan background. She graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Human Physiology. During her time at Davis, she was actively involved in the LEADR (Leadership in Engineering Advancement, Diversity, and Retention) program, a first-generation retention program for engineering students, and CALESS, the SHPE (Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers) chapter at UC Davis. These experiences were crucial to her success and ultimately led to landing her current role at the 2023 SHPE convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Now, she lives in Ohio (crazy change, I know) and works in R&D at P&G, where she focuses on upstream innovation for Bounty, Charmin, and Puffs.
Emely says, "One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is the continuous learning that comes with working on paper innovation, an area that is far more complex than I initially expected. I also greatly appreciate the work culture at P&G, which fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for new hires. Outside of work, I prioritize my personal growth and well-being, focusing on both mental and physical health. I enjoy staying active through exercise and exploring new coffee shops around Cincinnati. On a fun note, I have 18 piercings—eight on each ear and two on my nose."
