  • Know How... 162: Beer Lifting Drone and Interdrone 2015

How to build a beer lifting quad, and Interdrone 2015.

    The Beerlifter

    Parts List

  • 2 x Diatone 250 Frames (16.99 each... AND they come with the Spacers!) $33.98
  • 8 x RTFQ 2208 2300KV motors ($61 for 4) $122.00
  • 8 x RTFQ 20Amp ESCs ($9.00 each) $72.00
  • 1 x KK 2.1.5 FC $19.00
  • 1 x 45mm Power Distribution Board $1.99
  • 2 x XT60 Connectors $1.50
  • 40 x 2mm Bullet Connectors $10.02
  • RTFQ 1-17v adjustable Voltage Regulator $0.99
  • 16/18/20 AWG Silicone Wire $1.39
  • Heat Shrink Tubing $1.00
  • Carbon Composit Bullnose Prop (3.24 for 2) $12.69
  • Total: $276.56

    Practical Design Considerations

    1. ESCs

    We've got 8 x RTFQ 2208 2300KV motors that max out at 295 watts

  • We're going to use a 4s (14.8 volt) battery.
  • Watts = Volts * Amps - So we'll be using (295/14.8) amps = 19.9 amps
  • So we need 20 Amps ESCs (with sustainable bursting to 30 amp, for good measure)

    2. Batteries

Again: 8 x RTFQ 2208 2300KV motors that max out at 295 watts

  • That means we can pull a maximum of 2,360 watts from the power system.
  • A single 2200 4s 60c battery can provide 1953.6 watts. (60c x 2.2 amps = 132 amps // 132 amps * 14.8v = 1953.6)
  • This means that we can't provide enough power with that single battery to max out our motors.

We COULD go with a larger capacity battery, or a higher discharge rated battery

But I decided to double up on the 4s 2200 60C packs. That gives us 3,907.2 Watts
