  • The Goonies

Hey, you guys! It's time to look back and celebrate one of the greatest adventure films of all time, 1985's The Goonies.

Tom can't quite believe that Morgan only watched this once a few years ago, and so it's up to him to teach him all about the legendary film starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin and many others.

From One Eyed WIlly's rich stuff to a missing octopus, we'll take you through the excellent film.

And maybe you can help us find out if we really did have a pub chat with a Red Dwarf and EastEnders actor...

    We also discuss:

    • How all the children are far too loud
    • Robert Davi's terrifying opera singing
    • No, Jerry O'Connell is not in this film, Morgan
    • Why Mikey and his inhaler was Tom's hero
    • Jeff Cohen is now a dish
    • Will a sequel ever happen?

  • Ultraviolet (1998)

Remember that vampire series on Channel 4 that starred Jack Davenport and Idris Elba before they were famous and it only ran for six episodes in 1998? No? Well, Morgan's going to refresh your memory.

For this Halloween (sort of) special, Morgan will teach Tom all about the cult British TV drama, that also starred a pre-True Blood Stephen Moyer as a vampire 10 years before his American success.

Oh, and Tom forgets Morgan's birthday.

    We also discuss:

    • What an era for vampires the late '90s were
    • Why you never say the word 'vampire'
    • Why sexy Jack Davenport can't be bothered in this show
    • And neither can Idris
    • Why Tom thinks it's 'Pearl Harbour with vampires'
    • Will we ever feel old enough to sip brandy and wear double jackets?
    • Is it Bram Stoker or Bam Stroker?

    Particularly drunk, we discuss:

    • How this time, Doom Bar was an acquired taste
    • Those 'This Is DVD' adverts
    • How Mystery Men must have inspired The Boys, according to Tom
    • Tom invents several words, unucsessfully

  • The Three Musketeers (1993)

All for one, and all for love!

This episode sees Morgan take Tom back to 1993 and the strangely-forgotten action romp The Three Musketeers, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Oliver Platt, Chris O'Donnell and Tim Curry.

Tom thought he'd seen it, but when he watched it the night before, this was apparently not the case. But what did he think of it?

    We discuss:

    • Why are they called Musketeers when they only seem to use swords?
    • Tom's concept of something having 'no legacy' purely because he's never heard of it

  • Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds

"And slowly, but surely, they drew their plans against us..."

For this episode, Tom teaches Morgan all about a true one-off: the sci-fi prog rock concept musical album adaptation of HG Wells' War of the Worlds, by Jeff Wayne.

Morgan gets flabbergasted at the album's enduring popularity, as he hears songs like 'Eve of the War' and 'Forever Autumn' for the first time, much to Tom's dismay.

    We discuss:

    • The gravitas of Richard Burton and the surprisingly decent David Essex
    • The gall and the gumption of Jeff Wayne sticking his name on the album and spending A LOT of money - but it worked!
    • How Tom grew up with an actual typewriter
    • Morgan's most hated words: 'rock opera'
    • Justin Hayward's sci-fi pedigree
    • How Tom had a mandatory dance class at school. Just him?

  • Time Crisis

    ACTION! WAIT! ACTION!

In this episode, Morgan takes a shot at looking back at the history of the classic Time Crisis video game series.

It is an action series that has produced 11 games since first taking arcades by storm in 1995, some 27 years ago.

In a rather drunken episode, we discuss:

    • Morgan's recent stag do and his downright diva behaviour
    • The fun and mystique of arcades - or 'arcade centres' as Tom calls them
    • The light gun myth - did they actually work?
    • Wild Dog's many deaths
    • Time Crisis' insistence of using randomly generic names for its heroes
    • Croad Macgalain - the most underrated action star ever?

  • The Lake House

People power has spoken! After literally hundreds a few tweets for #DoTheLakeHouse, Morgan has finally given in and is allowing Tom to do a whole episode on one of his favourite films of all time: The Lake House.

After an hour of drunkenly banging on about the 2006 romcom starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, the boys soon discover that it's far geekier than they ever thought. But will Morgan agree with Tom that it's one of the greatest movies ever made? Stranger things have happened.

    In the episode, we discuss:

    • Morgan's brain melting as Tom tries to make sense of The Lake House's time-travel rules
    • Is Morgan a sexy name?
    • The sad decline of DVD bonus features
    • Tom's weird annual ritual of watching a flop film from 2006 every autumn
    • Magical dogs
    • What can you get away with putting in the magical mailbox?

We also struggle through the episode while drinking a very strong stout.

Make sure to check out all previous episodes, including time-travelling escapades like Back to the Future, Bill and Ted and Doctor Who. We also of course have our Keanu Reeves special.

About Two Geeks Two Beers

From the publisher's feed

Tom and Morgan are two mates who love talking nonsense about pop culture, while also enjoying a beer. We've taken our drunken ramblings from the pub to the studio to teach each other about all kinds of films, TV shows, video games and more. From '80s cartoons to '90s kids shows, action film franchises to cult games, we'll chat about anything remotely geek-related, often with plenty of confusion, bickering and fond nostalgia.
