Two Guys Talking Rush

Episode 74: Different Stages w Robert Scovill

Hello, RUSH fans!

It has been too long…

We are glad to be back with this lost episode for you which we recorded back in the spring. However, it is most fitting that it arrives on the eve of the winter solstice, as for me RUSH has always been a winter band.

Different Stages…

Our guest Robert Scovill, is a multi-award-winning concert sound engineer and Senior Live Sound Specialist at Avid Technologies. He has worked with countless artists such as Def Leppard, Kenny Chesney, Tom Petty, and RUSH! In this episode, Robert discusses in detail the recording process of the epic RUSH live album Different Stages, released in 1998.

Enjoy!

See you on the flippity flop!

Happy Holidays!

Love,

JK & DB

2GTR Episode 73

SUBDIVISIONS!

Thanks for tuning in cool kids!

In true 2GTR form, we dig deep into each program to give you the best in RUSH news and commentary.

And this episode shall not disappoint…

This week Kane breaks down one of the bands most iconic videos…SUBDIVISIONS…with none other than the lead character played by Dave Glover, a L'Amoreaux HS student at the time.

I don’t want to give too much away, so kick back, take a drive, or beat on that treadmill and listen to another incredible episode of 2GTR!

Conform or be cast out!

Endlessly Rocking,

John Kane

Hello, RUSH fans! It has been a while...sorry about that. I promise we will make it up to you...

Back in February John & Dan Interviewed Angie Scarpa drummer for the incredible all-female Black Sabbath tribute band –Black Sabbitch! Angie says, “I'm a freak for Sabbath — a complete and utter lunatic about Black Sabbath.” But she is also a freak for RUSH! Hear her tell us why...on 2GTR! Enjoy the episode...there will be more! Much Love, JK & DB

Hey 2GTR listeners!

Happy New Year and welcome to Episode 71!

On this show both John and Dan chat with Brandon Teows of Drumeo where he explains his drum playing approach to every single rush song ever made! Neil would be so impressed!

Brandon is an author, educator, and performer based out of Vancouver, Canada. He is the author of The Drummer's Toolbox and the co-author of The Best Beginner Drum Book (find both books on Drumeo and Amazon).

Thanks Brandon! And thank you for listening to 2GTR!

Happy New Year Folks!

It is a time to reflect as the year comes to a close. And as Dan and I look back on our accomplishments we pull those who are near and dear to us closer to our hearts.

Ok...cut the cr*p...

We are taking a break plain and simple. This episode is our favorite, and worthy of a recap.

We will see you next year with some killer new episodes!

Love yah!

Rush Rules!

BAH HUMBUG!

Yes, you read the title right -Rush Haters! And yes, Dan and I went there.

Folks...lets face it...It is no secret that Rush are an acquired taste. And in this episode we learn from our distinguished panelists why.

It's cool, more Rush for me... thats how I look at it.

Tune and listen to Paul Green (founder of School of Rock) Leslie Ylinen (writer, journalist) and David Setgenian (just doesn't like Rush) discuss their aversions toward Rush.

This was a tough one...but we all walked away still respecting each other. As it should be.

Happy Holidays!

YO!

This week John & Dan continue their chat with John Kane’s old friend (30 + years) Chris Stankee. If you are a Rush fan, then you may have learned about Chris over time while reading Rush news.

Just to refresh…

Mr. Stankee is global director of artist relations for Sabian cymbals and a very close friend to Neil.

It was such a pleasure catching up with Chris, learning more about his life’s journey, Sabian, and what Rush means to him. Like all of us Chris is a true fan.

Thank you Chris!

And thank you all for tuning in again to another killer episode of 2GTR!

Happy Holidays!

Hi-yah friends!

It is gettin’ cold where I am! How about you?

Let’s talk about the weather… shall we?

Nah.

Continued...

In 2013, writer Adrian Begrand (Popmatters) listed the Rush song "Time Stand Still" at #8 on his "10 Songs That Will Make You Love Rush", calling it "Rush’s best pop moment." And I would have to agree… It is truly one of their best.

However, according to many fans the accompanying video might also be one of Rush’s worse visual moments. Regardless on your take of what the infamous TSS video is really getting at…after you listen to this episode of Two Guys Talking Rush you may discover that it could be the most misunderstood during their “VHS years.” As always, we like to deep dive on this show…and this might be our “deepest.”

As we turn the clocks back, and settle into the dark doldrums of winter lets reflect on a time when Rush were both experimental with their music, flying capabilities, and videos… and we have award winning Polish filmmaker/innovator Zbigniew “Zbig” Rybczyński to thank for that.

Be thankful folks. Hug a friend, a family member, a stranger (mask up) and remember…

Summer's going fast

Nights growing colder

Children growing up

Old friends growing older

Freeze this moment

A little bit longer

Make each sensation

A little bit stronger

Experience slips away…
