The Southeast Missouri Department of Athletics held its inaugural Redhawks Trivia Night and Auction on October 15, 2016, at the Show Me Center. The event was presented by The Bank of Missouri. In total, over $45,000 was raised for SEMO Athletics. The event sold out in its first year, hosting 50 teams and over 400 people. The event featured eight rounds of various trivia categories, a live and silent auction, a celebrity wing-eating contest, and a 50/50 raffle. Food and drinks were all included.

Southeast Missouri State University was well represented at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction this year. Former Southeast Missouri football standout Eddie Moss, softball coach Lana Richmond, track star Miles Smith and football alum Bob Stolzer were among 10 individuals inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, Nov. 6. Southeast Missouri’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have officially started practice. Both teams are preparing for their upcoming 2016-17 seasons, which begin with exhibition action in early November. Southeast Missouri State University introduced Andy Sawyers as its new head baseball coach on August 1. Sawyers is the sixth head coach in the Redhawks baseball history and takes over a program that has won three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championships, including the OVC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016.
