And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, for she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived. But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If all is well, why am I like this?" So she went to inquire of the Lord And the Lord said to her: "Two nations are in your womb; two peoples shall be separated from your body; one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older shall serve the younger."
Genesis 25:21-23
God’s prophetic word to Rebekah regarding Jacob and Esau, the twins in her womb, is still being fulfilled today. In the Middle East, the children of Jacob are still struggling with the children of Esau. But on a more personal level, Jacob and Esau are still at war within our own soul.
“Now what is this never-ending war we face? What is this raging battle we're in? Well friend, it is the battle of our two natures! The old nature (Esau) which is dominated by the flesh and the new nature (Jacob) which is liberated by the Spirit of God.”
