This one is a podcast of opportunity.

I had a gap in the holiday schedule to get something recorded which should act as a precursor to my eventual podcast about Avalon Hill's 'Wooden Ships and Iron Men'.

Also it's to fill the gaps created by the current erratic recording and upload schedule. Life still a bit unsettled, but let's not dwell on that.

Jumping the gun slightly on this one. Partly due to me bringing a Hornblower novel with me to Slovakia plus some posts on Facebook by like minded souls. Indeed, there are many who like the age of fighting sail. Huzzah!

I also drop in a few observations about Pike and Shot for good measure (as well as some awkward sound edits - ahem...)

Just a very quick one today.

To mark the passing of Terence Stamp I thought I say a few words given he appears on the thumbnail to this podcast channel.

I felt it would be remiss if I didn't put something out there given I've been using his image for a few years. Plus of course he appears in one of the Star Wars films. Although I'm not sure if his image from said movie appears in the RPG book Wizards of the Coast put out around the time of the prequels.

Well, it's a tenuous link to gaming I suppose.

Although for me, I'll forever remember him as General Zod in Superman 2 - a genuinely fascinating yet terrifying presence to the movie along side Sarah Douglas.

Rest easy Terry.

As promised a little video of the walk I sometimes do during my podcast recordings in Slovakia.

Only a short film, and a bit jittery too despite my best efforts at controlling the shutter speed. Not sure why my Samsung camera renders the image like that, but it is what it is.

A peaceful place that maybe belies all the bears, boars, deer and traumatized migrants I often fret about.

I'm Back!

Greetings listeners and thanks for tuning in. It's been a while and it's been a long haul - literally. Since my last audio effort I've been driving back and forth between Switzerland and The Netherlands with our belongings, unpacking, assembling furniture and...well...you get the picture.

As such I thought I'd record something before I go the way of many expired podcasts.

I recorded this one on yet another walk along the Hungarian Slovak border, and while I was not set upon by bears, wild boars or startled deer, the wind did assail me somewhat. Basically apologies for the audio quality on this one.

Help! I'm surrounded. Surrounded by boxes that is.

Today's episode comes from the Man Cave where this humble podcast began over four years ago. Yep, I'm back in Holland for a few days as part of my family's move from Switzerland back to the Netherlands. The last couple of days saw me renting a HUGE van / truck and moving all our household items out of storage and back into the family home.

Of course, as part of this logistical operation, were lots of boxed containing my games.

Was looking forward to this as I thought I'd open a few boxes and get a little one-shot game going. Alas I'm not quite there in my head due to all the other stuff going on in life.

Hoping that when all is settled I can have a big old scrap with some Orcs and Dwarves!

Time for another podcast. But this time recorded against the backdrop of some big changes.

In spite of the uncertain times I find myself in, I've been merrily crafting away bushes, trees and hills. Plus I've found the time for regular beach combing on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Alas, all my efforts are destined to be shoved in a box until the can be placed on the field of battle. Ashak Rise to be precise.

Yet, the wargaming Gods do smile upon me and presented with a great find at a local book exchange.

Ahhh, another find to distract and tempt me.

For this first podcast of 2025 I thought I would outline my rough plans for trimming down the gaming paraphernalia into a more manageable pile. While driven by circumstances in my case, it's good practice and prevents an innocent and joy bringing hobby descending into the pits of obsessional hoarding.

Also a few words about game books and how handy they can be when space is a premium. As if you didn't already know.

As alluded to in the previous episode, I thought I would take you on a tour - if that's the right word - of my bijou hobby space.

There is barely enough room to swing a cat around, yet alone a camera, within the confined space of the apartment's store room. Yet this is the only viable space I can leave things left set up without fear of them being disturbed.

And so I made it my own.

They say necessity is the mother of invention.

Amen to that.

Despite vowing to get a new podcast recorded and uploaded by the 18th of each month, I once more failed in that deadline due to the usual excuse of life getting in the way.

Anyway, better late than never.

This episodes has me recalling my Bond related experience earlier in the year . 'What's that got to do with gaming?' you ask? Well, it inspired me to get into the James Bond RPG which I - ahem *cough* - still haven't read through yet.

Next year I'll get around to it. Promise.

Plus I give an audio tour of my gaming and hobby space and talk you through the masses of minis I've painted in the last few weeks. Well, more like 40 or so.

All it needed was a visit to the local hardware store.
