Simma Downe/Mitchel Bowers (she/they/he)
Simma Downe, aka Mitchel Bowers, grew up in a small rural town in central Ontario. AS A child, he was taught many traditional Métis teachings. Being raised in a small town with the pressures of colonialism and Christianity left them struggling to embrace their femininity and queer identity, which led to a lot of anger and self loathing. After moving to Halifax, they were introduced to Drag, which kickstarted her journey to self acceptance. Through the combination of arts and femininity, and through Simma, Mitchel started to question the colonial views that were projected on him and learned to embrace her two spirit identity. Now having performed drag for more than 5 years, she’s won multiple awards, including Fort McMurray's Top 50 Under 50, Excellence in Arts Award, and two Pride YMM Leadership awards.
