Baptism represents a burial of a dead man—not a drowning session for a living being. How do we know if the carnal man within us is truly dead? Defensiveness and excuse-making represent sure proof of the sinful nature alive within us. Conversely, faith toward God expressing itself in love for our brethren is John’s indicator that we have passed out of death and into life.
