On this mid-way through 2023 episode of Bots, Bugs, and Babes, my father (Al Jaconetti) and I are going to cover some listener’s feedback.

The night was Dark. . . .    No, that’s not right.

Dark was the night. . .      still not there.

Always Dark was the Knight. . .    way to pretentious.

OK, Batman’s dark, we get it, but is this story that dark?  Well, it starts with nary a word (“nary”?, Eh, go with it.)  It’s true, the first part only has two spoken words.

The second part though, that one gets a bit wordy and the third is a patented Byrne data dump.  The question is: Is it a good story?

Well, in a special episode of 3rd Degree Byrne (We’ll call it a “SideByrne”) Brian Hughes and son Christopher look at and break down John Byrne’s “The Many Deaths of the Batman”  a three-issue tale of murder and intrigue, art by Jim Aparo.

This is a fun one with a Christopher providing a much younger perspective on the Dark Knight’s tale. This, of course is a bit different in that we are covering a story where the only art provided by Byrne was for the covers.  We do discuss Aparo’s art and how it had changed up to his late 80’s work, but really the focus is on the story by Byrne.  There are some good questions posed here as we discuss why Byrne did not do more Batman with his time at DC as well as what the aftermath of this story would be and what it should be.

So pull up a cold bowl of Vichyssoise (points if you get it) and join Brian and Christopher Hughes as they Discuss John Byrne’s “The Many Deaths of the Batman”!

The night was moist. . .

As the song says, we are going under the sea.

Kirk Greenfield and Tim Elliott continue their coverage of John Byrne’s take on the Prince of the Sea with issue 4 & 5 of Namor the Sub-Mariner.

This issue 4 starts with mystery and ends with a bang! Issue 5 has Namor fight an ecological disaster with a little help from his friends.

Look for future shows as Kirk and Tim continue to explore the depths of the Sub-Mariner.
