  • The Man of Screen Podcast Episode 167 - Superboy: Black Flamingo/Hollywood
In episode 167 of the Man of Screen Podcast, Mike Zummo reaches his penultimate episode covering Season 1 of “Superboy”, produced by the Salkinds.
First were going to a club and were going to deal with hypnosis because we always need ways to get the punk rock teenagers under control. But were going to have a twist. Were going to have a biker entering the club with a large snake draped around his neck.
Who is this masked man? What is the club owners true motive? What is the scary truth about the “Black Flamingo”?
And then were going to take a trip. A trip back in time. Because Superboy is going to get sucked backwards through time after running into an eccentric scientist. Hes back to the Golden Age of Film, where he will encounter pretty starlets, movie executives and blackmailers.
And what is this starlets connection to Shuster University?
What happens when Superboy visits “Hollywood”?

  • 3rd Degree Byrne Episode 52: Superman Volume 2 #22
“Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.”
Yeah, no, this isn’t going to be that deep.
“It's kryptonite, Superman. A little piece of the rock you were born on. I've spared no expense to make you feel right at home.”
If you want to make me feel at home, make me a pie, preferably rhubarb.
“To us, they're just meteorites. Fair enough. But the level of specific radioactivity is so high, to anyone from the planet Krypton, this substance is lethal!”
If this stuff were real, you know there would be people wearing all the different colors of the stuff as their bling, just to show off how much money they have.
Though in the Byrne era, we only had to worry about the green kind. Green is such a lovely color. Always makes me think of Mountain Dew, or Christmas and sometimes anti-freeze. But that is not the point.
The point is that 3rd Degree Byrne is covering Superman #22 in this latest world hopping episode. Tim Elliott, Brian Hughes and Kirk Greenfield put this issue on the Byrner (see what I did there?) and really make a meal of it.
There are some real good questions asked, like . . .
Are Kryptonian clothes still indestructible after gold Kryptonite exposure?
How did Zod keep his hat from falling off his head when crashing through that ship? Super Ears?
    How did Superman get home?
    And so many more.
So sit back, pull up a chocolate shake (points to anyone that knows the reference) and enjoy as 3rd Degree Byrne covers Superman #22

"Come, dear. It'll be easier for you than it was for Jason."
On this episode of Bots, Bugs, And Babes, my father (Al Jaconetti) and I celebrate the dog days of summer by going back 40 years to where it all started: Camp Crystal Lake, as we cover Friday the 13th (1980). We will cover all the different aspects of this film, from production to special effects and even the lasting power this little movie had on the world, even to this day. Join us, as we discuss how what started as a mere print ad in the newspaper, has now helped spawn a multi-billion dollar business.
