  • In Country: Marvel Comics' "The 'Nam" -- Episode 93
    Seven episodes and a wake-up!
This time around, I take a break from my regular coverage of the comic to bring you one of the landmark films about the Vietnam War, 1978's The Deer Hunter, which stars Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken, and Meryl Streep. For my look at the film, I'm joined by fellow TTF podcaster, Luke Jaconetti. We talk about Michael Cimino's Best Picture winner by looking at the plot and characters but also its symbolic/metaphorical meanings; and its reputation and resonance as a film about Vietnam, war, and America.

  • Episode 281- Rokk Rocks (And So Does Laurel)- Legion Of Super-Heroes vol. 04 #07 (Five Years Later)
In this week's adventure, Magnus Lad concludes his trek through the Five Years Later era with Legion Of Super-Heroes #07. Well, concludes it for the time being, at least.
As a series, this iteration of the Legion hasn't really been defined by explosive action sequences. But it would be fair to say that this issue features a ton of action, fights, explosions and all that good stuff.
But newcomers will also see first hand why Rokk is awesome as he fights the real battle in this issue using only words.
So what more do you want? Get to listening immediately or else Mordru transforms you into a functioning toilet or something.

  • Legion Season Three Episode Two
Scott and Pat are back to talk about “A Boy Named Charlie Brown”, or wait, I must be on drugs, I meant to say Legion “Chapter 21”. David is preparing to use Switchs time travel powers to “fix” the world, but there may be some difficulties to overcome which involve lots of Peanuts references, an Alice in Wonderland homage and a Squirrel interrogation (its Legion, just go with it, man). Will Syd ever forgive David for his rapey ways in the last season? Will Clark push the shiny red button? Does Aubrey Plaza make the best Mad Hatter ever (the answer is yes). Will Scott stop using so many quotes and parenthesis in these write ups? Its Legion, so it might just all be in Davids head or at least in the stuff his hippie commune is smoking. When the going gets weird, the weird watch Legion and you should too, and then listen to us chat about it on Weekly Heroics: A Two True Freaks Guide to Heroes (or psychic villains) on TV.

  • The Two True Freaks Presents - Star Trek Next Generation First Generation Summer Crossover 8 - Back To The Future 2
During STNG's production break we decided to review a childhood favorite. In Back to the Future 2, we don't have to worry about the temporal prime directive, Borg trying to go into the past or even Q messing with the timeline. All we have to worry about is a bully, a gambling problem and a time machine. Enjoy this one kids as Patrick and Sascha try and figure it out.Check out NEXT GENERATION'S FIRST GENERATION HERE!

  • X-Men 137 Pt.2 - The Dark Phoenix Saga Coverage Continues!!
The Dark Phoenix Saga continues here!!! Again!!!
Just like we promised last week, here is part two of 3rd Degree Byrnes coverage of X-Men 137, “The Fate of the Phoenix”. In our last episode, we only got half way through the book, as it was double sized and man, can we talk. Seriously, did any of us know when to shut up?
    I didnt think so!
Anyway, with the new X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, being released into theaters by Fox a few weeks ago, we figured we should show you how its really done.
And now, just like the Dark Phoenix Saga was in the comic books, 3rd Degree Byrne has now become
    A multi-part EPIC!!
We will cover the last half of X-Men 138 in our Fourth Dark Phoenix episode. And to be consistent, we let the interns out of their cages to do the heavy lifting again. Listeners and frequent email and Facebook stalkers John Hijatt and David Thompson help as we cover the Dark Phoenix Saga to the bitter end.
Tim Elliott and Brian Hughes are still around as well. Though Brian is almost late for every recording as he has to walk Fifi every night(Mandate from Chris Honeywell as proxy from Dufeaux).
So enjoy a cool beverage at your own pace and check out the latest offering from 3rd Degree Byrne! Some Helpful links:

  • Listen to the Prophets #120- Empok Nor
The “trapped in a haunted house” trope returns to Star Trek, and collides with the “redress the set to look like another place” trope, all rolled into one episode.
While scrounging for parts at DS9's sister station, things go horribly awry, when a bio-toxin brings out the worst in our favorite Cardassian tailor, but maybe brings out the best in our favorite chief engineer.
Join the usual band of misfits- Paul Spataro, Dr Bill Robinson, J David Weter, and introducing Andrew Leyland (As Saavik) as they discuss another episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
