Chugging caffeine or diet soda all day while thinking it's harmless? It could be contributing to insulin resistance, rising insulin needs, and difficulty losing weight.
Sami and Ginger discuss their own caffeine habits and goals, how one cup-o-joe impacts their blood sugar, and why Ginger is trying to quit caffeine altogether!

Anaerobic exercise can be a little tricky and confusing. If your heart is pounding, why isn't your blood sugar dropping like it does during a 2-mile jog? It's all about a combination of lactic acid, adrenaline, and cortisol.
Sami and Ginger chat about managing type 1 diabetes during anaerobic workouts.

Well, Sami is back from her travels and she returns with a very strange story. It involves a really bad low blood sugar, a hot yoga studio, and a foolish older woman. (That's a nice way of describing this woman, by the way.)
Hypoglycemia is the worst — but I guess ignorant people can make it even worse.

Marijuana. Mary Jane. Pot. Dope. Grass. Weed. Bud. Flower. Hash. Ganja.
So many fun names, but really, we're talking about cannabis.
It is legal now in nearly half the country. Meanwhile, there might be a few things to consider when using cannabis with T1D.
Sami and Ginger aren't actually experienced cannabis users. (Could somebody please let Sami's mom know she only tried it once. We promise.) So we turn to a fellow T1D who is remarkably knowledgeable on all things cannabis: BJ Garceau!
BJ has lived with T1D for over 30 years. Today, she uses cannabis to manage ADHD, chronic pain, insomnia, and depression. She also has degrees and training in mental health and drug addiction recovery. BJ has extensive knowledge of cannabis, different uses, things to be aware of, and different methods of safely ingesting cannabis.

As if being a woman with type 1 diabetes isn't challenging enough, let's add birth control to the mix. In this episode, Sami and Ginger share their experience with nearly every type of birth control on the market.
Sami talks about insulin resistance and weight gain. Ginger talks about fibromyalgia flare-ups, exhaustion, and difficulty breathing.
Birth control is just too much fun.
