Type on Paper

What's cooler than cool? An ice cold new episode of Type on Paper. This week, Maddy and Shannon recommend some chilling winter reads: THE LOVELY BONES by Alice Sebold and ONE BY ONE by Ruth Ware. We also welcome our first surprise guest—a guest so surprising even she didn't know about it!

Happy Thanksgiving! In this week-after-Thanksgiving special, Maddy and Shannon discuss THE ROUND HOUSE and THE NIGHT WATCHMAN by Native American writer Louise Erdrich, making sure to touch on the viability of a career as a waterjack, the range of the Church of the Latter Day Saints and the special relationship between nephews and their aunts.

Shannon and Maddy recall their least favorite assigned reading from high school. Surprise, it's the same book! We've got a winner (or a loser). In this episode, we talk the good, the bad, and the weird of Elizabeth Kata's A PATCH OF BLUE.

We're back and Covid negative, though it was a close one for Shannon. This week's episode is so nice we recorded it twice! Maddy and Shannon take over the National Book Award judging panel and do it flawlessly. Also, Shannon's audio wins out over Maddy's this episode. Once Maddy gets herself a gamer girl headset, it's over for you audiophiles.

The theme of this week's episode is: themes! Shannon and Maddy spin a wheel to recommend books on topics from fish to wood. Along the way they talk dads on Spotify, how to mourn Lil Peep, and the true author of the Harry Potter series.

Welcome to the kickoff episode of Type on Paper! Maddy and Shannon chat spooky stories and cabin fever in Shirley Jackson’s THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE and Stephen King's THE SHINING.
