Worship of anything else but Jesus, is IDOLATRY.
In this podcast sermon (Part 3 on lessons learnt from King Hezekiah) The 1st and 2nd commandments are clear, “ You shall have no other god before me. You shall not make idols”. Jesus emphasised that he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it (Matthew 5:17-20). If we are worshipping ANYTHING else than the Lord, it is called idolatry. Idolatry is an extreme admiration, love, or reverence from something or someone. In Numbers 21:4-9 the Lord asked Moses to make a bronze serpent and place it on a pole and all those who were bitten and looked at the serpent were healed. The bronze serpent became a symbol of protection and good fortune. The bronze serpent was with the Israelites for 700 years. It was with them from the time of Moses, to Joshua, to David to Solomon and until the time of King Hezekiah. Even when the Israelites came into the promised land they began to worship the bronze serpent. We must never worship the tools and the people God chooses to use. Hezekiah broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses made because the Israelites burned incense to it and he called it Nehushtan. It is so easy to get intoxicated with trinkets, trophies, titles, treasures, talents, buildings, money, fame and fortune, power, materialism etc that we substitute our worship of things instead of Him. Jesus put the spotlight on the matter when he stressed that the son of man must be lifted up and everyone who looks at the SON and not the SERPENT will be SAVED. ❤️
