Introducing the longtime academic director of the Harry S. Truman Research Institute at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Professor Vered Vinitzky-Seroussi. She comes onto Tzuzamen to discuss her studies in the fields of sociology and collective memory and how entire perceptions of what is considered real can be attributed to the collective ideas of people all believing in the same thing. There is also the phenomenon of collective trauma within a group of people who have all suffered one way or another, usually within the same generation, from a single overlapping traumatic event. And finally, at least with the case of Israel, how much the state itself and its educational system plays a role in crafting a collective memory through indoctrination.
Tzuzamen is hosted by Tzili Charney and Tzipi Trope.
