Ambassador Thenjiwe Mtintso is currently serving as the South Africa’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia. She previously served as South Africa’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, as a Permanent Representative of South Africa to UNWTO, South Africa’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Ambassador to Romania, Italy and Cuba.
She has served in other capacities too. As Deputy Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC), which she also served as an NEC and NWC member. She also held several leadership positions of the South African Communist Party. She served as Chairperson of the Commission of Gender Equality, and as a Member of Parliament.
Before the attainment of freedom in 1994, Ambassador Mtintso was in exile between 1978-1992. In 1985 to 1992 she was Chief Representative of the ANC in Uganda and acted as the Regional Mkhonto We Sizwe Commander.
Prior to that, she served as a journalist for the Daily Dispatch Newspaper.
Ambassador Mtintso’s many roles and positions are too many to mention. She’s active in various gender and women’ structures. Engaged in gender training especially for women in politics in Africa. She has written articles published in various local and international Publications on women, education, patriarchy, gender relations and defence. She has presented papers and participated in various national and international workshops, seminars and conferences on women, gender, democracy and defence. She holds a Master’s degree Public Management and Development and has been conferred with an honorary doctorate by Rhodes University.
