The Deputy Minister is visiting the country to strengthen bilateral relations between Pretoria & Jakarta as well as to participate in the "2nd ASEAN-South Africa Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee Meeting".

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines), is a political and economic union of 10 states in Southeast Asia. Together, its member states represent a population of more than 600 million people.

South Africa enjoys cordial diplomatic relations with the Republic of Lebanon. South Africa's historic relations with Lebanon are due to a sizeable community of South Africans of Lebanese origin (30 000), the first components of which dates back more than a century. South Africa maintained a Consulate-General in Lebanon until 1974, and from then onwards, an Interest Section under the auspices of the Swiss Embassy. In 1979 the last South African official was withdrawn because of the threat posed by the civil war but the Mission continued to function with only one locally recruited staff member until the last of these went on retirement in 1982.

The South African Interest Section was never officially "closed", but its functioning was only "suspended". The Lebanese Interest Section of the Swiss Embassy in South Africa continued to function uninterruptedly until full diplomatic relations were established in 1995. On 27 June 1994, Lebanon and South Africa formally re-established full diplomatic relations. The Head of Mission in Damascus is accredited to Lebanon on a non-resident basis and Lebanon has an Ambassador in South Africa.

Sometime in May 2023, we hosted in studio the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to South Africa, HE Ms A Kandas discussing relations between the two countries. We recently learnt that her term in South Africa is coming to an end and she will be going back to her country. Today, she joined Thelma Hlongwane in studio once again to reflect on her diplomatic journey.

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative arm of the African Union, is hosting the Fourth Ordinary Session of its Sixth Parliament from 28 October to 15 November 2024. This final Session of the year is held under the African Union Theme for 2024: "Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa."
