The Dutch Diplomats' Association is undertaking a study tour to South Africa.
South Africa and the Netherlands have a strong and historic relationship that started more than three centuries ago. Bilateral relations have grown in substance and diversity over the years, but 2023 was one of significant progress. In one year, South Africa welcomed Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Màxima for a State Visit, Prime Minister Mark Rutte for a working visit and Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot for the Third Meeting of the South Africa – Netherlands Joint Commission. These visits and the substance of the discussions gave great momentum to bilateral relations.
The Netherlands is South Africa’s sixth largest trading partner, a major investor and development partner and the fourth largest source of overseas tourists. Much of the focus of the bilateral relationship is on green hydrogen and just energy transition. The Netherlands is now a full member of the International Partner Group of the JETP.
