Soul Soup is a rich, warm, delicious and nutritious mixture of soul, RnB, jazz, funk, neo-soul, hip-hop and everything else good that comes from that cultural space.
Florrie McCarthy and Aisling Moloney are two final-year engineering students with a shared love(bordering on obsession) for all things music and we want to share it with whoever wants to listen.
In this episode, we look into and discuss some amazing soul songs which were sampled in some of our favourite hip-hop/rap songs. We touch on some of the creative qualms associated with samples: What is considered reformative and what is stealing ? (Mainly we just have fun though)
For most of these examples we play the original song first then the song it was directly sampled or interpolated in. If you’re also a sample nerd like us, guess the new song alongside each sample !
Grab a spoon. Tuck in and Enjoy :)
