UCP: The GamesMaster Retrospective

Usually posted behind the Patreon paywall, this month's Under ConsoleNATION is released into the free feed to celebrate our second birthday, the Gore Special Live Show, and to give us a bit of breathing room so we can record some stuff for series 5. IT WILL BE COMING SOON I PROMISE.

Recorded on January 14th 2022 in front of a LIVE audience in Croydon, it's the GamesMaster Gore Special! Karl Wright and Mark Field battle it out on Kasumi Ninja, Dermort Clarke goes on a killing spree in DOOM, and RoboCop stops by to play Alien Versus Predator on the Jaguar (but actually doesn't).

There's news on the Visible Human Project, and features on the goriest games around, the best fatalities in games, the best way to 'pull birds' and a whole heap of CD-ROM porn. You have been warned! It's girthier, it's gorier, it's a thinly veiled piece of propaganda for the ailing Atari Jaguar!

A few more stops before we get to Series 5, and Luke sits down with 3 challengers from previous series of GamesMaster to talk about their time on the show, the challenges they won, and what it's like owning a GamesMaster Golden Joystick.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part in the episode.

Series 5 is just around the corner, and there are major changes on the show; one of the biggest is that we're now firmly in the PSX era of gaming! So, Luke and Ash look back at the European launch of the Sony PlayStation, how it was covered in GamesMaster Magazine, review its launch titles and DEMO 1, and read out letters from the first issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine.

As we head towards the safe haven (or should that be HEAVEN) of Series 5 of GamesMaster, Luke and Ash look at the European launch of the Sega Saturn and the coverage it received from magazines.

Merry Christmas!

Luke and Ash head back to 1994 to look through the Argos Catalogue and pick out some Christmas gifts for each other.

Stay safe, everyone. We'll see you next year.

In this final episode of series 8 - and possibly the last episode of the show EVER - Shellz takes on a tricky FIFA '22 challenge, Little Lad Larry defends his crown against Elz The Witch, two friends settle the score on Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, and Ty Logan steps up to the plate to face Dev Griffen on Tekken 7.

Plus, Rab reviews the Evercade VS and educates Grado on Doom modding, the COLLEAGUES give their thoughts on Valheim, and Ty's Asylum opens up for three mini challenges.

We also speak with Jonesy SpaceCat about her job as a Gate Keeper for the series, and a post-show Rab Florence who reflects on his time as the host of GamesMaster.

All clips and excerpts taken from the Youtube 'Social First' premiere.

Do you think we're made of money. Of course we are.

KayPOW gets blasted on Deathloop, Little Lad Larry battles Warren Brown on Override 2: Super Mech League, MC Fixer takes on Sunpi on Speedrunners, and former Golden Joystick Winner Christian Dinh returns to win another prize - or lose everything - playing Cuphead.

Plus, Frankie puts gaming wear to the test using Rab, Ty and Grado, Rab reviews the Nintendo Switch OLED and Super Metroid Dread, some kids make a game called Bouncing Bum Bums, and Grado learns about visual novels.

Not only that, but we chat (and by "we", we mean "Ash") speaks with Christian Dinh about returning to the show!

All clips and excerpts taken from the Youtube 'Social First' premiere.
