February 01, 2025Walk in ObedienceGreetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and welcome to another episode of the United Church of Tonga Youth Devotion. Our Bible reading for today is taken from the book of Deuteronomy chapter 5 verse 33. Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you possess. Our theme, walk in obedience. It is very easy for us to recite obedience throughout the Bible and we can speak about being obedient like it's a walk in the park. But the reality is we must walk the talk and actions speak louder than words. Obedience is knowing what is right and striving to do what is right by God.It's funny how if we are on a health journey, we follow a diet plan closely and are so obedient to stick to it. When we cheat, we feel so guilty. But why can't we apply the same commitment to walking in obedience to God's laws and plans? We can stick to working church rules, yet we can't obey God's laws. Our scripture reminds us today that to prosper and to prolong our lives in this life, we must walk in obedience to all that our Lord has commanded it.We desire quick fixes to the problems in our lives. We look for the silver bullet or a magic wand that we can waive our sins, and they will be gone. As leaders in the church and our families, we must search for direction, and the starting point is God's revelation in the scriptures, which involves walking in obedience. Diligent obedience begins with fear of the Lord, according to Proverbs 2, 5. We must fear the Lord to enable walking in obedience.Without fear, we turn a blind eye to sin and use scripture to condone the wrongdoing of mankind. The challenge for us today is to keep focused on the Lord's commandment. Let it be the lamp unto thy feet and the light unto thy path so that we walk in obedience and reap the rewards of being the faithful servant. The reward for walking in obedience is we live, prosper, and prolong our days in the land. Let us pray. Lord, help us meditate on your scriptures daily so that your commandments inform our actions. We pray for your guidance and strength so that we will keep on and walk in obedience....more3minPlay
