That's What Shree Said

UK's Unforgettable 'Daytimer' Music Culture

Listen Later

United Kingdom. The 199O's. At a time when Raj was trying his best to woo Simran and her bauji, a small yet significant part of the South Asian community went to nightclubs in the day, called 'daytimers', an afternoon rave of sorts where young adults partied to bhangra, drum n bass and old Bollywood songs.

Although it's barely documented in popular culture, Riz Ahmed's short film called 'Daytimer' which was selected at Sundance a few years ago, provides a great window to this world, following the coming-of-story of a Pakistani teenager in 1999.
