Now that we've learnt about the world of crypto, as well as about Bitcoin and blockchain, it's time to look at some of the other coins. There are thousands of 'altcoins' out there; that is, 'alternative coins', which is anything other than Bitcoin.

In the first three episodes of the Ultimate Money podcast we've talked theoretically about the ideas that make up the world of cryptocurrencies.

Now we're going to get a little more practical. I was curious to know - how does Joe Blow, your average crypto user, actually buy, hold and use crytocurrencies? Where do you get them from and how do you use them to transact for things? And most importantly, how do you protect yourself so that you don't lose your crypto, or get hacked and have them stolen from you?

Now for the third part of our introductory series we look into Blockchain technology. 'The Blockchain' is what underlies the Bitcoin network - it is the distributed public ledger that verifies every transaction made of every bitcoin. Every 10 minutes, the 'block' of verified transactions is closed off and added to the chain.

It sounds a little confusing at first, but Tim Delmastro holds my hand again. Tim is a staff writer here at Ultimate Money and the producer of two crypto documentaries.

After speaking about the generalities of the world of cryptocurrency more broadly in episode one of the Ultimate Money podcast, we'll now talk about Bitcoin more specifically. Bitcoin is the current market leader in cryptocurrencies, having been the original crypto after the release of an 8-page whitepaper by a person or persons going by the pseudonym 'Satoshi Nakamoto' in 2008.

I'm guided again today by Tim Delmastro, the producer of two cryptocurrency documentaries: 'Magic Money - The Bitcoin Revolution' and 'Bitcoin - Beyond The Bubble'.

Today we begin our crypto journey. We'll be learning all about the new world of cryptocurrencies, talking to world-class experts along the way.
