On this quick musing, Wes questions if we actually believe what we “think” we believe, or is there dissonance between our thinking and behavior. If we eliminate possibilities that cannot be true then we can arrive at better questions that point us to better answers in our quest for truth.

The Mind.

What is it? How does it work? Is it my 🧠? Can it be trusted? How do I tame it?

These are some of the questions our founder Wes Mullins deals with @csfuk and their Shift students (Freshmen) back in 2018. It is a mind-bending listen!

Why is the chaos in 2020 and 2021 increasing? Why are the norms of Western Society being torn at with fervor? J Wesley Mullins gives a few of his thoughts on this. This recording is off the cuff and on his drive into town. Call it a musing of sorts!

This is a sneak peak at the first session in the ReThinking Thinking Series. The first step is to see that there might be a problem before we look for a solution. We begin discussing what a healthy mind and proper thinking looks like. We then look deeper at our own thinking to see where it measures up and where it lacks. This is a snapshot on what to expect in the coming five sessions.

This is a talk given at the University of Kentucky Christian Student Fellowship (CSF). The topic is “What do you believe and Why?” Most of us don’t really know how we came to have the beliefs we hold. They were either passed down by our parents or we were taught them at school. But few of us know why we were taught them. We wouldn’t know how to come to those conclusions on our own. We just accept them because we believe them. Wes talks to the students about how to begin the process of learning how to learn so you can know what you believe and why.

What is Your Aim?
Humans are creatures of great aiming abilities — we can take pieces of wood, rock, feathers, and string and hit a moving target hundreds of yards away. No other creature can do that. We can aim our physical, mental, and emotional states over the course of decades and hit a desired job, retirement, etc. — no other creature can do that.

It requires the use of 3 types of language: prescriptive, descriptive, and predictive: ought, is, what can/will be. This means not all words are created equal. They have different purposes and trajectory - it would be like saying it doesn’t matter where the archer aims, he’ll hit the target 🎯. You know that’s not true. So why do you think that all language and aiming in life is equal and should bring about the same outcome? There is no such things as equity of outcome.

We are starting this podcast and institute from ground zero. I have been forging and refining this information for a decade. These Daily Musings are my thoughts about life, theology, philosophy, and what ever comes up while I am driving, sitting around the house, or feel the urge to work through some thoughts.

This podcast was recorded on my way to work, I remodel homes currently, and I was thinking about releasing this material and what my motives and goals should be.

Shift Freshmen CSF Students Q&A with Wes Mullins. I was so honored to be asked to speak to the UK Freshman about the benefits of Apologetics and answer their astute and meaningful questions. They were so attentive and engaging, you couldn't have asked for any better turn out or engagment. I can't wait to work with them again in the future.

(Forgive the car noises. Sometimes it is easier for me to think and talk while I am driving. I was picking up Nina, my wife, at the airport and decided to present you all with an intro to the book.)

What is my book about? Why did I write it? In this 30 min clip I tell you a little about the content and context of my book. I try to explain the whys and whatfors for this literary and semi-academic venture.

I wrote this an introduction to philosophy. An appetizer to have us challenge our thinking process, and even what we think about thinking. A lot of us hold beliefs and have thoughts that are contradicting but yet we've never challenged those beliefs or thoughts. This book is the space and time to begin to take up that challenge.

This is an semi-academic look in to my own personal journey of discovery into truth. I say semi-academic because (probably to the surprise of many) I have tried to popularize, or bring the language down to a more common level. Not in a condescending manner but so that I can reach as many people as possible; both the common thinking and the deep thinker.

It is the goal to help people become confident in what they believe and why they believe it so they can share with others. Not in an effort to defeat people or win arguments but so they can communicate those beliefs correctly. Also, for us to be so unabashed in our beliefs that we can in fact say with confidence, "I don't know", when we don't know, instead of attacking people or making up an answer just to look like we know what we are talking about.

It is the essence of I Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." NIV
