On March 24, 1998 a family member of Stacey's contacted the Columbus Police Department as they had not been able to contact Stacey for a couple of day's and she had not reported to work. Her apartment was found to be unlocked with no evidence of a burglary or theft. Neighbors reported to the police that on the evening of March 22, 1998 they were awakened by a female scream and loud banging. On November 27, 2004 a hunter looking for a lost dog in a wood line near the Scioto River on State Route 257 North in Delaware County, Ohio discovered human remains, the remains were identified as Stacey Colbert.
