Fan. Groupie. Band member. Those three labels sound harmless until you hold them up to Jesus’ actual words and realize they describe three very different kinds of “Christianity.” We go straight at the uncomfortable question: am I just a fan of Jesus, am I chasing the church vibe like a groupie, or am I truly in the band as a disciple who lives with Jesus and for Jesus?
We dig into the ancient rabbi and apprentice model and the line that sticks with you all day: “May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi.” That is the picture of proximity, following so closely that His priorities, character, and obedience rub off on us. From there, we talk about the five words we’ve watered down over time: follow me, go make disciples. Following is not a weekend activity. It is movement, surrender, change, and a daily decision to keep walking.
Then we get real about sin and spiritual growth. Every believer struggles, but when we stay close to Christ, sin starts to feel heavier, not lighter. Conviction is not condemnation, it can be evidence that God is still shaping us. Finally, we bring it to the house for dads: our kids are not mainly formed by what we say, they’re formed by who we follow. They’re catching our dust, so whose dust is on us: Jesus’ or stress, anger, ego, distraction, compromise?
If you’re ready for a reset and a more practical Part Two (including a simple 89-day path), press play, then subscribe, share this with a dad who needs it, and leave a review. Where do you think you’re landing right now: fan, groupie, or in the band?
