UNBOSSED IS... “Paths To Success of Amazing Women in Chicago”
I welcome you to ask questions, participate, and join me as we explore these topics by emailing me at [email protected] or visiting www.unbossed.io
Tery has over 25 years of experience leading Supply Chain operations, global technology teams, and digital transformation programs with her partners, customers, and leadership. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami, Masters of Science from Columbia University, and Medical Training at OSHS back when God was a child. She is also a Collector of Firsts:
She was the first female in her family to not only break the mould and attend university, but become an engineer and scientist.
In 1990, she was the first female and person of colour in a pool of over 100 engineers offered one of only 3 promotions offered that year - that was because she was the first, and of the very few, engineers who volunteered to work on a 2 year project in Juno, Alaska installing and integrating sensing devices on offshore oil rigs and pipelines.
Coming up in her career, she was the first female Enterprise Architect at several companies she’s worked for - teaching other engineers about how to scale data across business functions, digitizing manufacturing processes using IoT, and integrating enterprise applications.
Later on, she was the first female to lead a technology team or operate at the Vice President level at several of those companies - advising executive leadership on how to transform business practises, scale operations on pace with growth, and maintain profitability without sacrificing innovation.
She was the first executive at one of her companies who spent dedicated time with field operations listening and partnering hands-on; working closely with farming, plant, and supply chain operations to ensure that any transformational change would bring productive, not disruptive change to them.
Recently, Tery and her co-founders sold their IoT device manufacturing start up to a large software company with a successful exit and plans to lead more technology teams in the manufacturing and financial industries.
She is known to be the first in the office and the last one to leave; knowing that as a brown woman, she must work harder and perform better than her male counterparts because right or wrong, she is held to higher standards.
So when she’s not collecting another “First”, she can be found paragliding, climbing mountains, tinkering with yet another IoT device, or absorbed in a good book with her family in Chicago.
