Jennifer Maanavi, the founder of Physique 57, shares her journey from being a dancer to working on Wall Street to becoming an entrepreneur. She was inspired by shows like Solid Gold and movies like Flashdance and Working Girl. Jennifer's love for fitness and the desire to bring an effective workout to New Yorkers led her to start Physique 57. She faced challenges in finding instructors and convincing people to try the new exercise method. But through effective communication, modeling the values of the brand, and creating a strong culture, Physique 57 became a success. Jennifer Maanavi shares her journey of building the Physique 57 brand and the importance of differentiated branding. She discusses how she and her co-founder, Tanya Becker, incorporated their vision of a confident and strong woman into the brand. They chose to go against the cookie-cutter approach of PR firms and instead focused on fashion, as fashion and exercise both make people feel strong and confident. Jennifer emphasizes the importance of taking risks and differentiating oneself in the business world. She also talks about the evolution of Physique 57 from physical studios to DVDs and eventually to an online subscription platform, which became crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic.
