EP71: Fighting Homelessness in Little Rock

The boys introduce their new Wednesday addition to the podcast. Now, UnChurched podcast can be heard every Sunday and Wednesday! It will be a shorty, but a goodie.

Sean is following the ISRO - the Indian Space Rover that recently touched down on the moon...but, will it find anything?

Then the topic ventures to Little Rock, Arkansas, Sean’s old stomping grounds. A church has joined with the state to pay homeless people $9.25 an hour to clean up the streets of Little Rock. That’s $2 over the minimum. As part of their payment, they also get mental and physical health services, job interview help, and temporary housing. It’s a shining example of what the church should be doing.

The boys get super introspective out the gate. Can you say that you are a patient person if your patience never gets tested? Do you make excuses for your behavior or do you rise to the challenge and exercise your virtues?

Then the boys start a discussion on how to filter through the virtue challenges. What ways do you try to minimize your stress? Do you work out, make a joke, or punch a wall? Everyone is different and pobody’s nerfect!

Jesus reacted to temptations perfectly and without sin, but we are not Him! What do Christians do when bad things happen? Do we react the way we should or just the way we feel? What we believe about our problems will either reinforce our pain or help us to a place of change.

EP68: Kenosis Theory

Baby H is coming and there is still work to do to get the house in order.

Sean finds an article that debunks the “gay gene” and the boys talk about the necessity to justify one’s choices. Why do we consider homosexuality a deal breaker in faith? What does it mean to be affirming? Where does it end? Just be yourself and be happy.

Then the boys get into a conversation about the Kenosis theory. This theological debate is age old and divides many, but we agree in that Jesus was fully man and fully divine in order to save all of mankind from sin. The better doctrine is they hypostatic union. Theology is cool.

The boys transition to a license plate that says, “PB4WEGO”. People have a problem with everything these days, i.e. swearing or talking about dicks. But, is it ok to question one’s integrity by the things they say.

We swear a lot. This is a platform where we are free to say what we want and challenge everything we believe. If you enjoy the conversation, share it.
