In this episode I discuss the earth-shattering book that everybody's talking about: Shameless: A Sexual Reformation
This book slams what God (and his Church) has to say about sex and sexuality and paints God as (author's words) "...keeping people from flourishing through their own sex and sexuality..."
I discuss the popular--but dangerous--relativistic, no-holds-barred, listen to your heart, "do whatever you feel" worldview espoused by this author and it's dangers. I remind the listener that all our choices have consequences that cannot be undone or avoided. I also examine what God has to say about doing sex and sexuality His way--and why it's not only the best way to live, but, really, the only way!
I discuss three Bible passages and apply them to how a Christian should seek to effectively live their sexual lives in this world:
1. The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” - Jeremiah 17:9-10
2. Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
3. So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. - Galatians 5:16-21
