Bruxy Cavey, John MacArthur, and others have recently had various types and levels of abuse reported on in their churches by Julie Roys. How are we supposed to think about this? Today we will focus on physical abuse and while we are far from experts on this important issue, we have been through several occurrences of abuse within the church. Who is the next John MacArthur? Who will take his place as pastor at Grace Community Church? Well, the way this conversation is being discussed I think reveals more about how people think in conservative circles. We all know celebrity pastors like Carl Lentz, James McDonald, and Mark Driscoll have all abused the celebrity culture of mainstream evangelicalism. But is celebrity culture JUST for those who are in the middle or even progressive side of evangelicalism? What about conservatives do they have a similar problem? There is so much suffering in this world, so how can a good and sovereign God allow this level of suffering? How can evil exist in a world under God's rule? These are some of the hardest questions that we must ask, yes I said must, in our lives. The problem of evil and suffering is a difficult topic, but it is not a topic that the Bible does not speak on. In God's Word we can find a lot of clarity on this topic.
