Paul's imprisonment has served to advance the gospel. His aim is to glorify Christ either in life or death. He desires the Philippian church to strive side by side for the gospel by living a life worthy of the gospel.

Calvinists believe in individual unconditional election based on God's good pleasure alone. Arminians believe in individual election based on foreseen faith. Traditionalist Southern Baptists believe neither--they hold to the corporate view of election. Dr. Sean Cole traces the history of this fairly new doctrine in church history and presents a hypothesis that Karl Barth's influence helped shape the view of corporate eleciton within the last 60 years.
