By the time Jesus arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been dead for four days. John 11:21 says that Martha confronted Jesus, saying, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Hurt and disappointment. When we face death, our definition of God is challenged. Which, in turn, challenges our faith. Why is it that we interpret the presence of death as the absence of God? As a result, we get angry or resentful when God doesn’t answer our prayers for healing.
