Inner Landscapes

Understanding home and finding safety within

Listen Later

Home is a simple word with many layers of meaning, feeling, and nuance.

In this episode, we invite you to explore what home feels like to you in a short visualisation.

We then dive into stories about our childhood homes, immigrating, what influences our perception of home in adult life, and the nervous system tools we’ve collected that help foster a feeling of home and safety within.

TIPS FROM THE SHOW

Ways to soothe the nervous system and come back to a feeling of home within:

  1. Somatic exercises like placing your right hand on your heart and your left hand onto your other arm so you hug yourself. Rest here for as long as you like.

  2. Colouring in

  3. Humming and tuning into bodily vibrations

  4. Singing

  5. Speaking with / writing letters to your inner child to reassure them you are here for them, they are safe, etc.

  6. Placing a hand on part of your body and feeling your aliveness there (it could be your heart, belly, throat, etc.)
