The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change recently released a new report, with another one coming out on Monday.

To learn what’s in the latest report and what it means for the future of the planet, Friday host Esty Dinur speaks with sociologist Dana Fisher, who contributed research about the role of policymakers and civic activism in addressing climate change, and Debra Roberts, co-chair of the IPCC’s Working Group II calling in from South Africa.

Dana R. Fisher is professor of sociology at the University of Maryland, Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and president-elect of the Eastern Sociological Society. She contributed to chapter 13 of the IPCC’s Working Group III report, specifically about policy actors and how they contribute to mitigation and the role of civic activism and engagement in climate mitigation.

Debra Roberts is co-chair of the IPCC’s Working Group II. She holds a PhD in urban biogeography and is currently head of the Sustainable and Resilient City Initiatives Unit in eThekwini Municipality (Durban, South Africa). She was a lead author of chapter 8 (Urban Areas) and a contributing author to chapter 12 (Africa) of Working Group II’s contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
