Does this mean you should go fire your high school buddies to find others? Not necessarily. But the more time you spend with like-minded people, the shorter the journey will be towards those goals.

I'm not suggesting that you fire all your friends that aren't business leaders. Pick your people that you'd like to hangout with, that you think are going places that you'd like to go."

John on making your own decision, instead of being pulled by others: "It's your choice. If you don't make a choice, what typically happens is you just get pulled one way or another, and you typically get pulled the wrong way."

John's advice for spending time with others with intention: "Just another thing that you can do is to start putting these anchors on your schedule with the people that you want to hangout with. I don't think it's ever gonna be perfect, but you can influence a lot of it based on your choices and what you want to make happen."
