Ungrading: Agitating Traditional Assessment

Listen Later

Hello hello hello beautiful people,

Jacob here (once again!), Now I promise Cassie will take a few of the next couple of descriptions, but I couldn't help myself. This episode's topic is on a concept we realized we had referenced a bunch already, and thought we should tackle it early on: Ungrading.

What is it? What's wrong with grades (except they really don't do much of anything we want them to*)? What concrete tips do Cassie and I have above and beyond shaking our fists? And is it really an all-or-nothing idea, or can a newcomer take it slow?

There's also some questionable assessment history thrown in, so if there are any fact-checkers, I almost undoubtedly made some mistakes in my recollection.

Finally, I start playing around with a couple of sound effects in my young editing career. I apologize ahead of time,

Jacob
